An Expert’s Guide to Vaginal PRP

Expert Guide to Vaginal PRP

Interest in vaginal PRP has grown rapidly over the past year, with more women turning to treatments that support sexual wellness, comfort, and confidence. To understand how it works — and why it’s gaining so much attention — Dr. Nikita Desai, a medical doctor at the Harley Street Skin Clinic in London, breaks down the details.

What is vaginal PRP?

Vaginal PRP uses a patient’s own platelet-rich plasma to boost sensation and encourage natural tissue repair. As she explains, “Vaginal PRP is a procedure we refer to at the clinic as the O-shot. The O-shot, aka Orgasm Shot, is a simple, non-surgical procedure designed to improve women’s sexual health and sexual pleasure. It includes inserting your own platelet-rich plasma (PRP) around the vagina and clitoris regions. It stimulates blood flow and helps activate natural healing, so those areas become more sensitive and able to respond.”

Vaginal PRP forms part of a wider move towards non-invasive treatments that focus on function, comfort, and overall wellbeing — not just aesthetics.

What happens during a vaginal PRP treatment?

The appointment starts with a consultation to review medical history and treatment goals. According to Desai, “We will start by reviewing your medical history and asking about your treatment goals. The treated areas are applied with a numbing cream and after a good 45 minutes, a vial is drawn with a small amount of blood which gets centrifuged. Those concentrated blood components are then injected carefully into the clitoris, labia and G-spot to heighten vaginal sensation, reduce dryness, and minimise discomfort during sex.”

Once numb, the injections themselves are quick and targeted, focusing on the areas linked to sensitivity and sexual response.

How long does a vaginal PRP procedure take?

The full appointment is around an hour, though most of that time is prep. She notes that “The procedure lasts about an hour. Most of that time is spent obtaining a tiny blood volume to isolate growth factors from it. Once this is processed, the actual injection into the desired areas of the clitoris, labia or vagina takes only 5 to 10 minutes for completion.”

The numbing cream keeps things comfortable, though she adds that “The injections, which take about 10 minutes, can create mild sensitivity and a little pressure.”

How soon will you see results from vaginal PRP?

Vaginal PRP isn’t an overnight fix — results build gradually. According to Desai, “The results of the O-shot will occur in stages. The sensation in the injected area is increased during three to seven days, that’s why it’s normal to feel tiny little pokes. The effect peaks at three months. Results commonly last for up to three years or more.”

For most women, improvements develop steadily over several weeks and continue to strengthen with time.

How often can you have vaginal PRP?

A single session is often enough, but there’s room to build on the results. Desai says, “One O-shot can make a huge difference in the sexual function and satisfaction of many women. Follow-up treatments offer even more benefits for some, with the option for a second shot after eight weeks if necessary. Sessions for enhancement of results can also be booked.”

Why are more women opting for vaginal PRP?

The reasons span every life stage: dryness, discomfort, post-childbirth changes, menopausal symptoms, and difficulty achieving orgasm. As she puts it, “For women interested in vaginal rejuvenation, the O-shot is an excellent alternative. It’s especially helpful for women who have difficulty achieving orgasm, experience vaginal dryness or pain during sex, sexual dysfunction, or other menopause-related issues. It may also assist younger women with orgasm and urinary incontinence issues.”

Has demand for vaginal PRP treatments increased?

Demand has risen noticeably. According to Desai, “We’ve seen a rise in women seeking the O-shot over the last year and I think this is due to several reasons. Many women are looking for non-surgical treatments to assist with issues such as post-childbirth changes, menopausal dryness or reduced sensitivity without the introduction of hormones.”

She also highlights how social media has helped normalise the conversation: “This is amplified further by the growing trend of more public conversations around women’s health and sexual wellness that we commonly see on platforms such as TikTok which is definitely lifting taboos that were previously in place.”
