Fluus Flushable Period Pads Hit Shelves

Fluus Flushable Period Pads

A period care revolution is making its way to Boots with the launch of Fluus: the world’s first fully flushable, 100 per cent biodegradable period pads.

Co-founded by Dr Olivia Ahn, a medical doctor and entrepreneur, Fluus was inspired by a simple question. “Like many people, I’ve been caught without a pad when my period starts,” said Dr Ahn. “I’d make do with toilet paper, and one day, I thought, why can’t our period products work the same way? Why do we have to choose between sustainability and convenience?” That question led to the development of Flushtec, a patented technology that allows Fluus pads to disappear before your next period, resulting in zero landfill, zero microplastics, and zero hassle.

Flushtec works by triggering a disintegration process when the pad comes into contact with water, allowing it to break apart like toilet paper and leave zero waste behind. Once flushed, the pad continues to break down within wastewater treatment systems, where its biodegradable materials contribute to the production of water fertiliser and renewable energy — making it the first carbon-negative period pad. This stands in stark contrast to traditional pads, which contain up to 90 per cent plastic and can take around 500–800 years to biodegrade.

The Fluus flushable period pads are available in three sizes:

  • Liners (£3.49 for 15): designed for daily discretion, these liners are perfect for discharge, spotting, or lighter period days.
  • Winged Small Pads (£3.99 for 12): with a snug, contoured fit in a smaller size, these pads are designed for teens, young people, or anyone who finds standard pads too large.
  • Winged Medium Pads (£3.99 for 10): offering breathable comfort and a fluid-locking core to keep you feeling dry, these medium pads are ideal for light to medium flow days.

“As a doctor, I’ve seen much research on the negative impact of microplastics on our health, which is why I’m passionate about eradicating them from the market,” Dr Ahn explains. “No one is talking about microplastics in femcare because no one else has an alternative. At Fluus, we do — so we want to make sure it reaches as many people as possible.”

Fluus pads are certified flushable, built to absorb, and naturally kind to skin. 70 per cent of the supply chain is already plant-based, with the company actively working to make it 100 per cent. Every material is FSC-certified and ethically sourced, and pads are produced in the UK, helping to reduce transport emissions and support jobs in low-employment areas.

From June 2025, Fluus will be available in Boots stores nationwide and online at boots.com. Information regarding a US launch has yet to be announced.
