For most of us, fragrance is the ultimate form of self-expression, a sensory signature we secretly hope everyone notices. For celebrities, the perfume they wear can be just as revealing as who’s on their arm during a pap walk, which is why we’re forever intrigued by what our favourite stars actually smell like.

The problem? Much like the rest of us, celebrities are known to gatekeep their go-to fragrance. After all, a signature scent can feel like a secret worth protecting, something too rare or too intimate to share freely.

But every so often, a star lets slip. An interview, a backstage sighting, even a casual Instagram post can reveal the bottles they really reach for, and not just the ones they’re paid to promote. From creamy gourmands to airy florals, here’s a peek inside the scent wardrobes of some of the world’s favourite A-listers.

Victoria Beckham — Room Service

Victoria Beckham once described Vilhelm Parfumerie’s Room Service as “super chic” on Instagram. Created by Jérôme Epinette, it layers blackberry and mandarin over violet, orchid, and bamboo, before settling into musk, black amber, and sandalwood. Conceived as an ode to old-Hollywood glamour, it evokes Marilyn Monroe at the Beverly Hills Hotel.

Rihanna — Love, Don’t Be Shy

Friends, co-stars, and those lucky enough to be in Rihanna’s orbit have often remarked on how incredible she smells, with Kilian’s Love, Don’t Be Shy most frequently named as her signature. The fragrance opens with notes of neroli, bergamot, pink pepper, and coriander, unfolds into orange blossom, honeysuckle, jasmine, iris, rose, and marshmallow, and lingers with notes of sugar, vanilla, caramel, musk, civet, and labdanum.

Angelina Jolie — 1969

Angelina Jolie is known for her affinity for distinctive, often unisex fragrances, with Histoires de Parfums’ 1969 said to be among her personal favourites. It begins with a burst of peach, moves into warm cardamom, clove, rose, and white florals, and dries down to a sensual base of Mexican chocolate, patchouli, coffee, and musk.

Taylor Swift — Santal Blush

Eagle-eyed Swifties first spotted Tom Ford’s Santal Blush in the background of her Miss Americana documentary, but the fragrance has been tied to her since the Reputation era. Created by Yann Vasnier, the scent layers spices, cinnamon, caraway, fenugreek, and carrot seed with ylang-ylang, jasmine, and rose, grounded in sandalwood, benzoin, Virginia cedar, musk, and oud.

Emma Stone — Gardénia

Emma Stone’s relationship with Chanel’s Gardénia is an intimate one. She considers it an essential part of her night-time ritual, once telling Vogue Australia that she sprays it on her pillow each evening for comfort. The fragrance opens with bright orange blossom and fresh green notes, unfolds into a heart of gardenia, tuberose, jasmine, and fruit, and rests on a creamy base of coconut, vanilla, musk, sandalwood, vetiver, and patchouli.

Beyoncé — Angels’ Share

Beyoncé rarely speaks about her beauty essentials, but fans took notice when she visited the Kilian Paris counter at Harrods during her Renaissance Tour. According to reports, she picked up Angels’ Share, an amber-vanilla scent inspired by cognac barrels, where a cognac opening unfolds with cinnamon, tonka bean, oak, and hedione, and is finished with vanilla, praline, sandalwood, and candied almond.

Hailey Bieber — Fleur Narcotique

While revealing the inside of her beauty bag with Harper’s Bazaar, Hailey Bieber shared her long-standing love for Ex Nihilo’s Fleur Narcotique. “It’s the scent that I’ve actually been wearing for a few years and I find myself always going back to,” she explained. The floral fruity fragrance, created by Quentin Bisch, opens with a luminous blend of litchi, bergamot, and peach, leads into peony, orange blossom, jasmine, and petalia, and is anchored by musk, moss, and woods.

Sydney Sweeney — Daisy

Sydney Sweeney once told The Cut she loves Daisy for its subtlety. “I like that this perfume is not so strong that when you walk in a room, you leave a cloud behind you. It’s very dainty, and it’s one of those perfumes that if you want someone to smell it, it means they’re close enough to you.” Fresh and floral, the Marc Jacobs scent balances violet leaf, blood grapefruit, and strawberry with violet, gardenia, and jasmine, before drying down to musk, white woods, and vanilla.

Charli XCX — Bibliothèque

Charli XCX has openly declared her love of Byredo’s Bibliothèque, a scent said to be inspired by old books. “It’s my current favourite scent that I always travel with,” she told British GQ. The floral woody musk begins with notes of juicy plum and peach before giving way to violet and peony, and finishing with a deep base of leather, patchouli, vanilla, and musk.

Olivia Rodrigo — Baccarat Rouge 540

In an interview with GQ, Olivia Rodrigo revealed Francis Kurkdjian’s Baccarat Rouge 540 as her favourite fragrance. “I don’t love smelling like candy or flowers, but this just smells like you naturally would if you were, like, an angel,” she said. Created by Kurkdjian himself, the scent is built on saffron and jasmine, with amberwood, ambergris, and hedione at its heart, and fir resin, cedar, sugar, ambroxan, and oakmoss at its base.

Sabrina Carpenter — By the Fireplace

Although she now has her own line, Sabrina Carpenter once named Maison Margiela’s By the Fireplace one of her favourite fragrances in a Vogue Beauty Secrets video. With notes of clove, pink pepper, and orange blossom leading into chestnut, guaiac wood, and juniper, and a base of vanilla, Peru balsam, and cashmeran, it perfectly conjures the warmth of winter nights. She has even hinted that its gourmand richness helped inspire her own scent creations.

Elizabeth Olsen — Philosykos

Elizabeth Olsen keeps her fragrance ritual understated, favouring subtle, skin-close scents. “I’m not one for perfume, it often gives me a headache,” she told Harper’s Bazaar, explaining why she turns to roll-ons and balms. Her choice is Diptyque’s Philosykos Refillable Solid Perfume: a creamy fig composition with fig leaf and fig, green notes and coconut, and a base of fig tree, woods, and cedar.
