MAC Cosmetics Names New Global Creative Director

MAC Cosmetics has appointed Nicola Formichetti as Global Creative Director, in a move that reaffirms its commitment to boundary-pushing artistry and bold self-expression.
“MAC is an iconic brand that has always championed the people and communities that move culture forward,” said Formichetti. “Having previously collaborated with the brand on my Nicopanda collection and the MAC VIVA GLAM campaign, I’m thrilled to return and bring my vision to this next chapter. The world is craving creativity, beauty, and connection—and I can’t wait to help bring that to life in a magical way.”
The Italian-Japanese fashion director, designer, and stylist is known for his visionary approach, genre-defying creativity, and cross-cultural influence. Formichetti rose to prominence as fashion director of Dazed & Confused before holding key creative roles at Vogue Hommes Japan, Mugler, Diesel, and Uniqlo. He gained widespread recognition as Lady Gaga’s fashion director, styling some of her most iconic looks — most famously, the raw meat dress she wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, which became one of the decade’s most talked-about fashion moments. He later launched gender-fluid label Nicopanda and played a pivotal role in modernising Mugler’s image for the digital age.
“Nicola is a once-in-a-generation creative talent who perfectly embodies the bold, fearless energy of MAC and our global community,” said Aïda Moudachirou-Rébois, Senior Vice President and Global General Manager at MAC. “Like our consumers, Nicola is passionate, expressive and knows how to push boundaries. His appointment is not only a celebration of artistry, but a reflection of our commitment to serving our consumers with of-the-moment relevance, creativity and authenticity. He is the perfect Creative Director to drive the brand into its next exciting chapter.”
Reporting directly to Moudachirou-Rébois, Formichetti will oversee the strategy, conceptual development, and execution of MAC’s creative vision, leading product innovation, creative partnerships, and global consumer engagement. His remit will span every brand channel, from campaign development and social platforms to packaging, product design, and immersive retail experiences.
Formichetti will officially assume the role on 19 May 2025.
