The Wella Company Appoints Calvin McDonald CEO

Wella Company Calvin McDonald

Global beauty giant The Wella Company has appointed Calvin McDonald as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 2, 2026.

McDonald, who most recently led Lululemon Athletica through a period of significant growth, will also join Wella’s Board of Directors. Current Executive Chair, Glenn Murphy, will remain in his role to provide strategic advice and ensure a seamless transition for the leadership team.

“We are delighted to welcome Calvin to The Wella Company,” Murphy said of the appointment. “As a three-time CEO, he brings decades of experience at industry-leading global consumer brands and retail businesses. Calvin’s proven ability to drive results through product differentiation, category expansion, and smart investments will help us win in the dynamic beauty sector.”

This appointment will see McDonald return to the beauty space. He previously served as President and CEO of Sephora Americas, where he oversaw consecutive years of double-digit growth during his five-year tenure and established haircare as the merchant’s fastest-growing category.

“I’m thrilled to return to the beauty industry — an innovative, fast evolving sector powered by consumers who are genuinely passionate about the products they love,” McDonald said in a statement. “I’m energized by the opportunity to use my experience to help elevate these iconic brands, partner with the pros who bring them to life, and unlock new ways to connect with consumers.”

McDonald’s track record at Lululemon was equally high-impact; under his leadership, the athletic apparel brand more than tripled its annual revenues and expanded its footprint to more than 30 geographies. Beyond his executive roles, McDonald is a member of the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Company.

The Wella Company, which fell under KKR’s majority ownership in 2020, has spent the last few years refining its innovation pipeline and solidifying its position as a global powerhouse. Its portfolio includes Wella Professionals — currently the top salon colour brand globally — alongside Sebastian Professional, OPI, ghd, Nioxin, and Clairol.

“We are pleased with the growth that Wella has achieved since our initial investment and are confident that Calvin is the right leader to build on that foundation and propel the company into its next chapter,” said Nancy Ford, Partner at KKR.

“This is a pivotal moment for The Wella Company,” McDonald added. “I’m excited to join this talented team as we shape the future of beauty together.”
