Australian suncare brand Airyday has officially landed in the UK, and it’s here to improve our relationship with sunscreen.

While our collective obsession with skincare has never been stronger, there’s a surprising gap between what we know and what we actually do when it comes to skin health. According to a recent OnePoll survey, just one in six Brits wear sunscreen every day. And more than three-quarters of them still treat sun protection as something reserved for holidays or heatwaves, rather than a non-negotiable final step in their morning routine, whatever the weather.

Airyday is hoping to change that with a range of ‘Skinscreens’ built around wearability. Think lightweight formulas without thick textures, chalky white casts, greasy finishes, unexpected breakouts, or overpowering chemical scents. Each formula starts with broad-spectrum SPF 50 protection before being enhanced with skincare ingredients, textures, and finishes designed to match our favourite moisturiser or primer. It’s part of a new generation of suncare brands proving that effective sun protection doesn’t have to come at the expense of how a product looks or feels on the skin.

That philosophy is rooted in founder Frances van der Velden’s own experience. After being diagnosed with skin cancer at just 36, she became frustrated by the experience of using traditional sunscreens and set out to remove the barriers that stop people wearing SPF consistently. “Airyday was born because I wanted to create formulas people would genuinely want to wear every day,” she explains. “Products that protect, feel beautiful on skin and fit seamlessly into real routines. If sunscreen feels good, people use it. That was the starting point.”

A key part of that philosophy is choice, with Airyday encouraging us to treat sunscreen in the same way we treat skincare or makeup — choosing formulas based on our skin type, preferred finish, lifestyle, and even the season. Whether you’re after a luminous glow, a velvet-matte finish, lightweight hydration, or a calming mineral formula for sensitive skin, the brand has an SPF for that.

The UK launch includes six SPF formulas, moving away from the idea that one sunscreen should do it all. Those chasing a glow can choose from three sheer, complexion-enhancing finishes, while the rest of the collection covers everything from an invisible hydrating gel for thirsty skin to a cloud-light mineral mousse that mattifies oily complexions and a soothing zinc-based cream for sensitive or breakout-prone skin. There are also two overnight sleep masks on hand to give sun-exposed skin some extra TLC.

Airyday is now available in the UK via airyday.co.uk. There’s currently no word on a US launch.
