Decibel Is Here to Give You Bigger Hair
When it comes to hair, bigger is always better. Whether we’re mimicking the bouncy, effortless blowouts of the eighties or attempting to inject some genuine life into limp strands, volume remains the ultimate holy grail. One haircare brand that knows this all too well is Decibel, and luckily for Brits, it has just launched in the UK.
For decades, the volumising product landscape has relied on the same predictable trick: coating the outside of the hair shaft in heavy polymers that eventually leave your locks feeling crunchy, dull, and plagued by unwanted product build-up. Decibel is promising to do things differently by shifting the focus from surface-level cosmetic fixes to internal hair restructuring.
It does this through its proprietary 140dB Complex, a blend of ingredients that shifts the focus from the exterior cuticle to the inner fibres of the hair. The inspiration for the technology came from hair colour delivery systems traditionally used to penetrate deep into the hair shaft. Working alongside her chemist, Sampson engineered the 140dB Complex to create what the brand calls ‘Hair Hypertrophy’. By working within each strand rather than wrapping around it, the complex visibly thickens and adds volume while keeping hair soft, lightweight, and entirely free from heavy residue.
According to the brand, the complex is shown to immediately increase hair thickness and volume by up to 74%, with benefits that last for more than 20 washes. Alongside the dramatic lift, the technology is designed to reduce drying time, assist with detangling, and offer protection, while being entirely vegan and colour-safe.
Decibel was founded by the multi-disciplined, award-winning hairdresser Jonelle Sampson and is operated alongside her husband, industry veteran Michael Sampson.
“As a hairdresser, the most common request I get is for more. More volume, more hair, a more youthful look regardless of hair type or age,” explained Jonelle Sampson. “I would get asked if there was an in-salon service that could do such a thing. It didn’t exist, so I created it. I wanted to focus on the hair people have, not what they don’t.”
The brand has landed with a three-product lineup, including its hero Hypertrophy Thickening and Volumising Treatment. Operating as the most intensive step in the routine, this weekly five-minute treatment contains the range’s highest concentration of the brand’s 140dB Complex. According to the brand, it helps visibly thicken and volumise the hair while also repairing, detangling, and protecting strands, making it entirely suitable for extensions, colour-treated hair, and keratin-treated locks. It’s also infused with the brand’s signature fragrance, blending notes of jasmine, saffron, amberwood, cedar, and fir resin — think Baccarat Rouge 540.
Decibel is now available online at decibelhair.co.uk, with prices starting at £17.50. Those in the US can shop the brand at decibelhair.com.
