Olaplex Unveils Biomimetic Cuticle Technology

Olaplex, the brand that redefined modern hair repair with its patented bond-building technology, has unveiled its latest science-led innovation: Biomimetic Cuticle Technology.
This breakthrough mimics the body’s natural repair processes to target and restore the hair’s outermost layer, the cuticle. “Our Biomimetic Cuticle Technology doesn’t just temporarily smooth the cuticle, it forms a breathable, protective layer that continues to strengthen hair’s structure wash after wash,” explained Lavinia Popescu, Chief Science and Research Officer at Olaplex. “This represents a fundamental shift from cosmetic conditioning to structural repair.”
Olaplex has debuted Biomimetic Cuticle Technology in two new treatment masks: the Rich Hydration Mask and the Weightless Nourishing Mask. The Rich Hydration Mask is a deeply restorative formula for dehydrated or medium-to-coarse hair, combining an Avocado & Shea Conditioning Complex with Biomimetic Cuticle Technology to lock in hydration and strengthen the hair. It seals the cuticle to help prevent moisture loss, reduce breakage, protect against future damage, and deliver shine with all-day frizz control. For fine-to-medium hair, the Weightless Nourishing Mask pairs Biomimetic Cuticle Technology with a Volume Boost Complex to provide lightweight hydration without sacrificing body. It seals the cuticle to boost shine, help reduce breakage, prevent snapping, and support long-term length retention.

Both masks are clinically proven to work in as little as three minutes, with benefits said to last beyond the next wash. However, it was the brand’s desire to deliver lasting softness that really drove product development. “The mask category has been trapped in a cycle of instant gratification, where consumers experience momentary softness that vanishes after their next shampoo,” said Amanda Baldwin, CEO of Olaplex. “Rather than accept this limitation, we approached masking as an engineering challenge.” That challenge paid off: clinical testing on bleached hair found the masks delivered 16 times more hydration immediately after use, with six times more hydration still present after five washes, keeping hair softer for longer.
The Rich Hydration Mask and Weightless Nourishing Mask retail for £39 each and are available now at Sephora and lookfantastic.com in the UK, and at Ulta Beauty and Nordstrom in the US.
