Wildsmith Skin Launches Fully Compostable Packaging

Wildsmith Compostable Skincare Packaging

Wildsmith Skin has partnered with packaging innovator Shellworks to unveil new, fully home compostable packaging, marking a major step in the British skincare brand’s sustainability journey.

“From our first meeting, we have been inspired by Shellworks’ vision and team ingenuity when it comes to reimagining a world without plastic,” said Katherine Pye, general manager at Wildsmith. “This partnership and our introduction of Vivomer in 2025 is a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to constant innovation and discovering new ways to minimise our environmental impact as we put conscious packaging and sustainable manufacturing to the fore.”

The brand’s new packaging is made using Vivomer, a proprietary material developed by Shellworks from a biopolymer naturally produced by microbes and derived from plants. Naturally pigmented, stable, and fully functional throughout its use, Vivomer is designed to exist in harmony with nature. Once disposed of, it biodegrades without leaving behind any waste. Whether placed in home compost, soil, or landfill, naturally occurring microbes break it down completely.

In home composting conditions, Vivomer packaging begins to decompose within 12 weeks, with thinner areas potentially disintegrating fully. After approximately 52 weeks in a healthy compost environment, it biodegrades into natural constituents that contribute back to the soil.

Wildsmith has initially introduced this compostable skincare packaging across two of its bestselling formulas: Active Repair Copper Peptide Cream and Ceramide Repair Balm. Four additional products will transition to Vivomer formats throughout 2025 as existing recyclable glass jars sell through. These products include the Active Repair Nourishing Cleansing Balm (100ml), Super Hydrating Overnight Mask, Dual Action Exfoliating Treatment, and Double Clay Refining Mask.

Established in 2018, Wildsmith was born from the grounds of Heckfield Estate in Hampshire. Inspired by the ancient trees that surround the estate, the brand champions skin health, blending British craftsmanship with advanced botanical science. Each product is meticulously formulated with potent bio-actives and precisely measured ingredients to deliver lasting results.

The Vivomer-packaged Active Repair Copper Peptide Cream and Ceramide Repair Balm are now available at wildsmithskin.com.
