Antipodes Brings Its Science-Backed Natural Beauty Approach to Haircare

Antipodes has spent the last two decades proving that, when it comes to skincare, natural products can hold their own against their synthetic counterparts. Now the New Zealand beauty brand is bringing its signature blend of science and botanicals to haircare.

Rather than masking damage with traditional silicones, the new collection is designed around the biology of different hair types. Straight hair naturally retains more oil, while curly hair loses moisture more quickly, making it more susceptible to dryness and breakage. By supporting healthy follicles and reinforcing the keratin chains that give hair its strength, the formulas are designed to improve hair quality from the root up.

“I approach haircare like skincare — through the lens of physiology,” explains Elizabeth Barbalich, founder of Antipodes. “Each ingredient must serve a clear purpose in supporting the hair growth cycle through healthy follicles, smooth cuticles, and integrity of the hair fibre.”

The collection launches with three targeted shampoo-and-conditioner duos, alongside a universal treatment mask. Dry or chemically damaged hair is catered for with the Fig + Feijoa Repair & Nourish line, which uses black maca peptides to help protect against heat styling while delivering nutrients to support hair during its growth cycle.

The Peach Freesia Smooth & Hydrate range is designed for dehydrated, frizz-prone hair, replacing silicones with safflower oleosomes that slowly release nourishing vitamin E along the hair shaft. For finer strands, there’s the Mānuka + Orange Volume & Shine range, which uses seaweed polysaccharides to bind hydration within the hair shaft for weightless shine. Completing the lineup is the Lime Caviar Intense Nourishment Hair Mask, which combines the collection’s hero bioactives with lime caviar AHAs to gently exfoliate the scalp and support healthy hair growth.

Elsewhere in the formulas, rosemary oil extract helps stimulate the scalp, while New Zealand mānuka honey delivers lasting moisture. It’s joined by other native botanicals, including mamaku black fern to support cellular renewal, harakeke flax gel to smooth the hair shaft, and avocado oil to boost elasticity and shine.

As you’d expect from Antipodes, every formula is naturally derived, cruelty-free, made in New Zealand, and formulated with biodegradable ingredients.

The collection is available now. UK shoppers can find it at escentual.com and antipodesnature.com, while those in the US can shop the range via natonic.com.
