Olaplex Just Launched Its First Hairspray

For decades, hairspray has kept our hair firmly in place, but that hold has often come at a cost: crunchy lengths, sticky residue, and hair that feels anything but healthy. We’ve simply accepted it as part of the deal. But luckily, things are looking up.

Olaplex, the brand that brought bond-building haircare to the masses, has officially entered the styling chat with Shape Set Hairspray. Marking its first move into performance styling, the mist is designed for all hair types, textures, and colours, promising lasting hold while helping to repair hair from within.

That repair element is key, as it isn’t just bleach and other chemical treatments that compromise hair — the brushing, heat, and friction involved in daily styling all take their toll. Shape Set is designed to address that damage.

The clever bit is the brand’s Bond Set Technology, which uses an encapsulated peptide to relink broken disulfide bonds beneath the hair’s surface. Translation: it helps strengthen hair from within as you style and, according to the brand, reduces breakage by 60% after just one use.

Meanwhile, flexi-hold polymers wrap around each strand to keep hair in place without leaving it stiff or brittle, while moisture-replenishing ingredients, shine boosters, and UV protection round out the formula. The fast-drying mist promises up to 96 hours of hold and frizz control, plus heat protection up to 232°C (450°F).

“Traditional hairspray technology is designed primarily to create a film around the hair that holds it in place,” said Lavinia Popescu, Chief Science and Innovation Officer at Olaplex. “With Shape Set, we engineered two levels of performance: Bond Set Technology works within the hair to strengthen its internal structure, while Flexi-Hold Polymers create a flexible network around the strand that allows hair to hold its shape without becoming rigid. That combination is what allows us to deliver lasting hold with movement and touchability, while simultaneously addressing damage.”

Created with professional styling in mind, the fine mist can be layered or brushed through without creating build-up or crunch. In consumer testing, 97% of participants agreed that their hair still felt touchable after application. The formula is also vegan, colour-safe, keratin-safe, and extension-safe.
